Great start to a Good Year

06/01/2009

Early on a cold January morning a team of 20 intrepid fund raisers set off on the journey of a life time. These explores are undertaking a 4 week journey from tyre giant Goodyear's UK head office in Birmingham to Timbuktu helping to donate to a number of African charities.

Throughout the trip a team of drivers will be giving educational, medical and general supplies to schools, hospitals and charities across Africa. At the end of their journey 8 vehicles involved in the challenge will be donated to good causes including Opera Africa, Sight Savers, Village by Village and Sabre Trust to help support their vital community work.

Goodyear are key supporters of this charity event, with all of the vehicles being kitted out with the brands market leading 4x4 tyres as part of the company's support. With a range of often challenging terrain to tackle, Goodyear's ultimate off road tyre, the Wrangler MT/R will help the team complete this epic journey.

No matter how tough the terrain, this aggressive tyre utilises the best technology Goodyear has to offer, resulting in impressive performance and resistance. The use of reinforced sidewall technology, unique tread block design and aggressive shoulder blocks gives amazing traction in all conditions, with the benefit of increased mud dispersal for maximum off road traction. Unique sidewall technology protects the tyre from punctures or damage, resulting in a tyre which really can cope with the demands of the most hard core environments.

Glenn McKeith, expedition organiser said: "I have been off road racing on Goodyear tyres for over 16 years and use their tyres everyday at my off road driving school. So its no surprise that I wanted Goodyear tyres for our trip."

"We are all really excited about the expedition and although we will experience some really tough driving conditions, it will all be worth the effort when we help these worthy causes."

Anna Stanley, Goodyear spokes person said: "We are thrilled to be supporting this charity event. It is events such as this which help change the lives of so many communities in Africa and it's thanks to dedicated teams like this which really make a difference. Goodyear is pleased to be helping the team every step of the way."
