For the next two weeks, almost 600 guests from 27 countries will experience the tyre's performance first-hand on demanding local roads, as well as on a track where the tire's wet and dry handling can be demonstrated.
Goodyear's new "star" of the European ultra-high performance market, the Eagle F1 Asymmetric, sets out today to impress the European media and other guests with the company's largest ever launch program in Gran Canaria, an island off the west coast of Africa.
For the next two weeks, almost 600 guests from 27 countries will experience the tyre's performance first-hand on demanding local roads, as well as on a track where the tire's wet and dry handling can be demonstrated.
More than 200 journalists, 30 guests from original equipment manufacturers, and 340 dealers from Germany, Austria, Switzerland and the Nordic countries will be given a 24-hour experience on the island. The new tyre has a tough act to follow after the enormous success of the Eagle F1, which has garnered countless test and magazine awards.
According to Chris Aked, director communications, European Union and Eastern Europe, Middle East and Africa, Gran Canaria was chosen due to the need for a premium location suitable in February to demonstrate the tyre's performance, leading to the ‘sell in' to dealers. At this time of the year in Europe most locations are usually too cold or wet to provide suitable testing conditions for an ultra-high performance tyre.
Aked said: "Using 40 brand new Audi TT cars for ‘ride and drives' will create a strong impression with guests as the focus is on tyre testing, rather than experiencing different cars." Guests will experience the tyre in four different workshops: wet handling, dry handling, cornering and slalom.
Instead of a traditional technical presentation, guests participate in an inter-active brand and product exhibition to demonstrate the tyre's key attributes. During a 45-minute tour through the exhibition guests are taken through the history of the company and various technology displays including compounding and noise demonstrations.
Goodyear Brand Director for EU/EEMEA Hans Vrijsen, said: "This tyre is absolutely critical to our business, as the Eagle F1 has had such a high reputation. Our engineers and development team at GTCL have done a superb job in creating a tire which will beat all expectations. After this launch event we have an extensive, integrated program to ensure the tyre makes the highest possible impact on the market, exceeding end consumers' expectations."
The tyre, produced at Goodyear plants in Germany, will be available in 24 sizes from 17 inches up to 20 inches and in 50-series down to 25-series to comply with the ultra high performance evolution.
