1981

For its innovative and highly successful work in hazardous waste disposal, Goodyear receives the Environmental Industry Award from the White House.


Goodyear introduces Versigard, a new rubber roofing system.


Goodyear introduces its new family of Eagle high-performance tires at Daytona.


1982

Engineered Products supplies nearly 170 miles of fuel hose for tactical fuelling of U.S. Marine Corps helicopters and jets.


Goodyear announces Highway Hero program to honor truck drivers for acts of heroism and public service.


1983

Akron Technical Center is dedicated.


Goodyear produces its three billionth tire.


1985

Debut of Hi-Miler, a cogged power transmission belt for automobiles. Goodyear introduces the industry's first lifetime warranty for automotive hoses and belts.


1987

Goodyear christens its newest, largest and most technically advanced airship, The Spirit of Akron.


Goodyear introduces the ZR-S, the first high-performance tire with a "Z" speed rating, indicating it is designed to operate at speeds over 149 mph.


Goodyear is named exclusive supplier of Poly-V serpentine automotive belts for the Chevrolet Corvette.


1988

A $64 million project is begun to increase synthetic rubber capacity and development at a new specialty polymer facility at Beaumont, Texas.


Goodyear develops SIBR, a synthetic rubber that improves the heat resistance of Eagle high-performance street tires and Eagle racing tires.


Goodyear produces the first asymmetrical-tread aircraft tire for the U.S. Air Force F-15 fighter and produces custom tires for both the U.S. Navy A-12 attack bomber and the McDonnell Douglas MD-11 commercial airliner.
